The French Connection

"5.30! 5.30 saaarp!", yelled Ajith into the phone tapping at his watch.

I didn't get it. "Whats the rush?"

"Dei! We are leaving at 5.30, after office" and he hung up.

I wound up at office by 5.30, went home, put on riding gear and thumbed the started on Zak's Electra 5 speed. I let the engine warm up as I put on my helmet. Left Anna Nagar by 6, only to get caught in the evening traffic. I took me almost an hour to get to proper ECR. By 7.15 I was at the toll gate meeting Ajith (Bull 500), Kartik (Bull 500), Dosai (Thunderbird) and me on Zak's 'to be run in' Electra 5 speed.

We didnt waste much time and got back on the road. Kharthik's 500 was running in too, so we were 'supposed' to take it easy. Both Ajith's 500 and mine were maintaining typical Bullet tradition (though mine wasn't a Bullet) and spewing oil from around the engine area. Ajith's Goldstar exhaust had a nice metallic sound to it and felt like a slap in the face everytime he would overtake the pack. After a small 2 minute break at Mahabs (60 kms from the city) to let the running in bikes cool down, we continued. From here the ride was fun. Pitch dark roads, four bright headlamps and the thump of the irons. With lane markers and cat eyes giving us advance warning of the road ahead, we managed to do some safe speeding in a tight pack. Stopped for coffee at Midway and reached Pondy at 10.30~ish. Went straight to Hotel Aruna, took a room, and settled down. The rest of the time spent there is summed by "Caman the enjaiment"!

We woke up at, err...sometime in the morning, did some shopping in the main bazaar and went to the French restaurant near Auroville. Had some amazing food there and Ajith bugger started tempting us by saying he felt like staying back and all. The lunch bill came and we tried offering a credit card but, "Sorry sir, only cash." Stark reality hit us that we had no cash! So what did we do? No, we didnt wash dishes and all, but made Karthikh run to the ATM.

With the bill paid, we geared up and rode back to Chennai. The ride back is a story for another mail!

cheers
